In a world where knowledge seems readily available at fingertips, the importance of education still remains. People are still driven to pursue formal education, regardless of the tests of life. In an inspiring story of two young girls from Khadgaon village of Nagpur District, Bhavika Ghormade and Harshita Chauragade, achieved commendable success in the Maharashtra State Board’s Class X examinations. Students of Madangopal Agrawal High School, Sitabuldi, Bhavika secured 93.8 per cent, while Harshita scored 92 per cent. Both the girls had humble family backgrounds, but such was their passion for learning that, they would undertake a daily travel of 17 kilometres by city bus from their village to reach school that was located in the city. After the results were declared on Monday, Bhavika shared with ‘The Hitavada’ that their school used to end at 5.30 pm, but she had taken special permission to leave school early to catch the city bus to go back home. She had to miss the last class daily, because the next bus would not come before 7 pm, which was too late for her.
“I received great guidance and support from school teachers and their teachings helped immensely while preparing for examinations. I attended tuition classes only for Mathematics and Science,” says Bhavika, adding that her only motivation was to make her parents and teachers feel proud, and she aspires to pursue career in the field of computer engineering. Bhavika’s father Narendra Ghormade is a worker at MIDC, her mother Veena Ghormade works at a fertiliser manufacturing factory, and younger sister Vedanti Ghormade studies in Class IV at a school in Khadgaon Village. Harshita attended her classes until the end of the school, and use to miss the 5 pm bus to her village. So, she and her younger sister Yogita, who is in Class IX at the same school, would rely on family acquaintances to travel on a two-wheeler upto Wadi area, from where they would catch a city bus to their village. “I lived in a city hostel for initial four to five months of Class X to save travel time, and utilise it to study, but later found it difficult to study in hostel so I returned back home,” shared Harshita.
She relied solely on self-study and online video lectures to grasp the concepts. As the exams were approaching, she solved test-series offered by a nearby home tutor. Harshita has set her sights on joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) to receive the necessary training and serve the country. Unlike many students, Harshita did not create accounts on any social media platforms until after her Class X exams, and believes that digital awareness is neccessary in today’s world. Harshita’s father Surajlal Chauragade is a supervisor of a company, her mother Yadeshwari Charagade is a homemaker, and she also has an elder sister Tanvi Chauragade.
