After drawing flak from all corners, Mohan Yadav-led Government has taken a strict action against unfit nursing colleges. Following the directives of Chief Minister, 66 nursing colleges in 31 districts are being closed down. ‘The Hitavada’ has constantly raising the issue and in recently published news on May 24 with the headline ‘After agency’s action, Opposition became vocal; Government to learn from past mistakes’. The scam pertains to gross irregularities in the functioning of several nursing colleges which lacked infrastructure while some existed only on paper. CM Yadav has directed officials to ensure that no student of these nursing colleges is affected and arrangements be made for them to appear for examination. The Commissioner of Medical Education Department has sent the list of these colleges to the respective district collectors and told them to act as per the High Court’s directives, the CMO said. The affiliations of these colleges were already cancelled. The action was also started against such colleges in several districts, including Indore.

 

The list includes eight colleges in Betul, six in Bhopal, five in Indore, four each in Chhatarpur, Dhar and Sehore, three in Narmadapuram, two each in Bhind, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Jhabua, Mandla, Rewa, Seoni and Shahdol. A college each in Alirajpur, Anuppur, Barwani, Burhanpur, Dewas, Gwalior, Khandwa, Khargone, Morena, Panna, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Ujjain, Umaria, Vidisha and Sheopur also figures in the list. “The CBI and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Bhopal, had constituted seven core teams and three to four support teams, comprising officials from the CBI, those nominated by nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh and patwaris in compliance with the directions of the High Court,” a CBI spokesperson had said earlier. Notably, a CBI official was recently arrested while allegedly accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe from the chairman of a nursing college under the agency’s scanner. Following the incident, the CBI terminated the services of its Inspector Rahul Raj. The CBI probe into the nursing college scam case in Madhya Pradesh has revealed that its officers were allegedly collecting Rs 2 to Rs 10 lakh from each institute to give favourable reports after inspection, the central probe agency said earlier.

 

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Police on Tuesday terminated the services of an inspector nabbed for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh when he was assisting the CBI in its probe into the alleged nursing colleges scan, an official said.

Sushil Majoka, an inspector of the Crime Research Department of MP Police, was attached to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing alleged corruption and irregularities in nursing colleges, he said. According to a letter from CBI, New Delhi, Majoka demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and was arrested under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act, the official said. Following the arrest, the services of Majoka were repatriated to MP Police and later suspected on May 22, he said. After receiving the information regarding the case registered against Majoka, Inspector General of the Crime Research Department, Anurag Sharma, on Tuesday dismissed Majoka from service as he tarnished the image of the police and failed to maintain high moral values, the official said. Majoka was sacked under Article 311 of the Constitution which allows termination of services of government employees, he said.
