Raipur,
Assembly Speaker and MLA of Rajnandgaon Dr Raman Singh has issued directives to Rajnandgaon district authorities and Public Health Engineering (PHE) officials to shut down rice mills causing water pollution. The urgency of the situation arose as polluted water from these mills was seeping into the Dhiri reservoir, which serves as a crucial water source for 24 villages. Dr. Raman Singh’s intervention came in response to mounting grievances among villagers, who were facing the consequences of contaminated water supply. Upon learning about the alarming situation, Dr. Raman Singh wasted no time in instructing Collector Sanjay Agarwal and PHE Executive Engineer to take immediate measures.
They were tasked with halting the discharge of polluted water into the reservoir and, if necessary, closing down the offending rice mills. Subsequently, Sub-Divisional Officers and PHE officials were dispatched to Dhiri reservoir to initiate the required actions. The contamination of Dhiri reservoir had prompted concerns among local residents, leading to advisories against consuming the water. Dr. Raman Singh’s swift action included not only shutting down the polluting sources but also ensuring arrangements for the supply of clean water to affected villages.
