Gang-war erupts in Central jail

A gang-war erupted in Central Jail on Tuesday morning following a lewd comment made against girlfriend of one of the accused. The jail inmates attacked each other during the brawl and even ransacked two TV sets. Two inmates were injured in the gang-war. According to officials from Dhantoli Police Station, two distinct groups within the jail’s population were involved in the gang war. The primary instigators were identified as Mohd Sakib Ansari (20), Mehbub Mohd Masut (38), Saddam Khan Ajiz Khan (31), all accused in murder case and Vrushabh Chandrashekhar Kawle (23), an accused in theft case. Their adversaries were identified as Suraj Gangadhar Karlewar (46), Lokesh alias Lucky Ashok Gupta (24), Shoeb alias Jony Said Sheikh (24), all accused in the murder cases, engaged in a heated exchange within Barrack Number 2 of ‘Badi Gol’.
 
The conflict stemmed from a lewd comment directed at the girlfriend of Lokesh Gupta, made by Sakib Ansari, on Sunday night. The comment provoked a quick retaliation and Suraj Karlewar threatened Sakib and his accomplices. Tuesday morning saw tensions escalate as Sakib Ansari, Vrushabh Kawale, and Mohd Masut launched a violent attack on Suraj Karlewar with makeshift weapons made from tin sheets. In the ensuing chaos, Karlewar sustained severe injuries and managed to fend off the assault. Retaliatory measures were quickly enacted by Karlewar and his associates which resulted in a further escalation of violence within the barrack.
 
Two TV sets were vandalised amidst the chaos and members of Sakib gang were bashed up by Karlewar and his associates. Staff of the jail rushed to the spot and intervened into the matter. The accused were shifted to another barrack to maintain law and order. Injured Karlewar was taken to the Jail Hospital for treatement. Dhantoli Police officials rushed to the spot in the evenng to take stock of the situtation. An offence under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused persons.
