The Crime Branch is taking stringent actions against the drug-peddlers to prevent smuggling of ganja in the city. The officials, in its recent course of actions, have apprehended six smugglers for smuggling drugs weighing a total of 135 kg and seized the items worth Rs 40 lakh. According to information, Crime Branch has recently nabbed 6 accused over the charges of smuggling 70 packets of ganja in the capital. The accused who were booked under section 8\20 of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) for illegal possession of ganja and transportation of the drug were transporting the drug from Odisha to Jamboree Maidan via Jabalpur.
 
The accused were identified as Mohammed Umesh (36), a resident of Gas Rahat Housing Board, Karond; Ritesh Prajapati (30), a resident of Mohalla Shyampur, Sehore; Satish Rajput (32), a resident of Shankar Nagar, Dusshera Maidan; Gopal Singh Yadav (42), a resident of Girdhar Colony, Mirjapur; Shamsher Ali (50), a resident of Kolipura; and a minor. As per the records, whistleblower tipped the crime branch off that few ganja-peddlers were coming to Jamboree Maidan, Bhopal from Odisha via Jabalpur in the evening around 6 to 7. He further stated that the peddlers were looking to sell ganja in Jamboree Maidan.
 
The officials taking cognisance of the information, constituted as team headed by police station in-charge Ashok Marvi to carry the operation against the illegal drug smugglers. The, cops, when reached the site found the smugglers sitting in a car. While taking the action against the peddlers, the cops along with the team, cordoned the area and took the accused into custody. According to information, the police searched their car and found 70 packets of ganja in a box like structure made inside the roof of the vehicle. Furthermore, during the interrogation, accused admitted of possessing ganja. The police seized 70 packets of ganja along with two four-wheelers and used 7 sacks in storing the packets. The total weight of the drug was found to be 135 kgs.
