Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is making a big-ticket investment of Rs 50,000 crore to set up a green-field 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) ethane cracking unit in Sehore district of the State. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav informed here on Saturday that the project of the public sector giant would soon come out of the drawing board. The State Government, he said, would extend all possible support to the project. The project according to Yadav would generate employment at least 15,000 persons and another 5,600 would get the job during the completion of the project.
The company has demanded an area of 900 ha of land. The Chief Minister said that a large parcel of the land is already available and if needed, private land would also be acquired. The Government, according to the Chief Minister, has already identified land in Bager, Bapcha, Donia, Bavra, Khandaurpur and Arniya Daud villages for a total of 779 ha to be made available for the proposed ambitious project. The project also involves a township to be developed on 70 ha of land. The company, the chief minister said, has sought various financial and non-financial facilities. The project is likely to come into shape for production by 2030-31.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the much-awaited Ken-Betwa river linking project and said it is also progressing. Speaking about water conservation efforts, the chief minister said the government has started a driver named as Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan under which the government would make appeal and invite people to come forward and extend support in improving the water bodies and other related structures across various Panchayat. The drive also includes a massive tree plantation drive at river banks, revival of the tributaries of the main artery Narmada. Also, the Chief Minister said that the Government would make a massive public drive to test waters obtained from various drinking water sources like wells and ponds in villages.
