In a spine-chilling incident, an unidentified man attacked a couple and killed their two-and-half-month-old infant at Damoh Railway Station in the early hours of Saturday. The mother was giving him water at the station while her husband was talking on the phone. Meanwhile, a man in a black kurta and saffron dhoti reached there. Before the parents could understand anything, he started beating the child. The child’s father Lekh Ram Adivasi said, “I was coming from Delhi to my home Madiado by Gondwana Express with my family. In Damoh, the child’s health deteriorated. So I thought to get him treated in Damoh. I was giving him water at the station. Then I called my younger brother to tell him that we are getting the child admitted. Meanwhile, a man came and slapped the child three-four times. He also hit his wife. When I went to rescue them, I was also beaten.
When I picked up a brick, he ran away. I told the policemen standing nearby that Sir, he is killing my child. The accused was right in front of them. He started abusing me and said that the child has died, take him home. GRP Post In-charge ASI, Mahesh Kori said that in the morning, Lekh Ram Adivasi (21) alighted from Gondwana Express with his wife and child. He was giving him water at the main gate. The child was already ill. A person came and scuffled with him, due to which the child died. Kori said, trains come and go at Damoh station 24 hours a day. Police are available all the time. Due to shortage of force, a constable was on duty. He was attending the train on platform number two, at that time the incident happened. CCTV footage has been checked. In which a person wearing a black kurta and saffron dhoti is being searched.
On the question of abusing family members when they asked for help, GRP Outpost In-charge said that interrogation is on. He has been called for immediate action. CCTV footage is being checked thoroughly. Apart from this, CCTVs of the city area are also being scanned. Action is being taken after taking statement from the complainant. SP Shrutkirti Somvanshi has spoken to Sagar SP. There is a possibility of the accused reaching Sagar. Kotwali TI, Anand Singh said, police are continuously tracing the accused. The accused was seen coming out of the railway station in the CCTV footage. The Railway Police had sought help from the district police. The accused was seen near Bansa Tarkheda village on Damoh-Sagar road.
