VIA urges Finance Minister toremove technical glitches inIncome Tax portal at earliest

THE taxpayers are facing
seriousproblems infilingtheir
Income Tax Returns (ITRs)from
the past month due to frequent
technical glitches in the e-filing portal.
In this regard, CA Ashok
Chandak, Chairman, VIA
Taxation and Corporate Law
Forum has sent a letter to the
Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharamanurginghertointervene and resolve the matter at
the earliest in the interest of tax payers.
Chandak further said,
“TaxpayerscannotfiletheITRs
till 1st week of June as TDS
Returns, SFT Returns and other compliance’s have the due
dateofMay 31.Effectively, taxpayershave only 45days tofile
ITRs.” The issue gets further
aggravatedbythefactthatthere
are often mistakes in Annual
Information Statement (AIS)and the reporting entities taketime to rectify the same aftergiving the feedback by the taxpayers. The Income Tax portalneeds to ensure seamless filing of the ITR, he added.
“This is not the first year oftroubleattheIncomeTax e-filing portal. In earlier years aswell, similar types of issueswere faced by taxpayers.Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT) needs to learn fromthepastmistakesandinnovateinitsworkingsoas toavoidthelast-minute troubleattheportal,” mentioned by VishalAgrawal, President of VIA.
CA Naresh Jakhotia, VicePresident of VIA said that thefiling the ITR has now becomeall the more time consumingin view of the data from multiple sourceswhichis requiredto be collected and verifiedbefore filing the ITR.
