BMC Budget today: New promises likely, last year’s provisions unfulfilled

The civic body is all set to present its budget for the development of Bhopal on Tuesday. The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is expected to present budget worth Rs 2,200 crore. Sources said that Mayor is likely to make promises for the road, meat market, park construction and beautification, personal water connection, cleanliness, etc public-oriented issues. However, there are many promises made in last budget which could not be fulfilled yet. Though expectation was being made to see hike in property, water and entertainment tax as council has withdrawn the proposal after noting down the objection from opposition and MIC members.
 
Sources said that municipal corporation may present ‘Namo Upvan’ proposal to develop park on VIP road side. Budget for this park may be ranging from Rs 3 to 5 crores. The park would have moderated equipment including solar panels, water fountain, verities of trees, foot walk, etc. As the current budget will be presented for nine months, budget amount will be 300 crores lesser than the last year. In year 2023, annual budget by BMC was presented for Rs 3306.31 crores.
 
This year interim budget worth Rs 808874800 was presented for three months on February , 10, 2024. Financial year budget 2024- 25 would be around 3,000 crore. Last year provision was made for personal water tap connection in private colonies worth Rs 379 crores, Rs 10 crore for park in each colony, Rs 4 crore for meat market, Rs 25 lakh for lake festival on Upper Lake, beautification of Gurunanak corridor, 5 crore for mini sports center for children, 5.5 crores for city square including zebra crossing, signals, blinkers, reflector, etc. In the recent interim budget presented in February, license fee proposal was presented as per bed in nursing homes and hospitals.
