The Burn Unit team of JLN Hospital & Research Centre of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) has proved its proficiency once again by saving a 4-year-old child from severe burn injuries. This 4-year-old child from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand fell victim to a tragic fire incident on March 24 and sustained severe burn injuries in the chest area due to spillage of hot cooking oil. After being rushed to a local hospital, the child didn’t show satisfactory signs of recovery even after undergoing treatment for over two and a half months. One of his relatives working at Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Research Centre, Sector 9, Bhilai, advised the child’s parents to get their son treated at the Burn Unit of JLN Hospital, which has successfully cured several severe burn cases in the past. The parents then brought their child to JLN Hospital & RC on June 16 and the treatment of that child was initiated with immediate effect.

After completion of the necessary investigations, a skin grafting surgery was performed by Dr. Uday Kumar, ACMO (M&HS-- Plastic Surgery), and his team on June 22, whereby skin from the child's body was grafted on the affected area to cover the damaged skin. The surgery turned out to be successful, and the child is completely healthy now. He was discharged from the hospital on June 26. The child’s treatment at JLN Hospital & RC has brought relief not only to the infant patient but also to his entire family. After seeing their child smile once again, the patient's parents, especially the child’s mother have expressed their gratitude towards the Hospital Management and the team of the Advanced Burn Care Department for treating their child.

Under the able guidance of Dr. Vineeta Dwivedi, CMO (M&HS), the anesthesia team helped in performing the surgery by giving general anesthesia to the patient child. Dr. Pramod Binayake, CMO (M&HS) continuously monitored the progress in the child’s treatment during the daily rounds. Dr Kaushalendra Thakur, CMO (M&HS) also took updates on the child’s recovery and presented toys to the child. On this achievement, Dr. Uday Kumar, ACMO (M&HS-- Plastic Surgery), along with fellow doctors of the JLN Hospital stated that incidences of such cases being brought here, their successful treatment is an indicator of the growing trust of people in JLN Hospital.
