Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh presented the budget for the financial year 2024-2025 on the floor of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation’s (JMC) House during the budget meeting, on Monday. The budget shows a total income of Rs 15,037,28,900 and total expenditure of Rs 15,034,65,000, thus a net profit of Rs 2,63,900. In the budget, the Mayor has introduced a historic roadmap to transform Jabalpur into a metropolitan city. The fiscal budget includes provisions to meet the basic needs of citizens efficiently. Likewise, there is a strong commitment to funding the comprehensive development projects of Jabalpur using resources from the Government of India, State Government and the Municipal Corporation. The goal is to make Jabalpur as capable as the developed cities in the country. Regarding the budget for 2024-25, the Mayor stated that this year’s budget is development-focused and historically beneficial for all citizens, promising widespread benefits. Presenting a budget of over Rs 1500 crore, the Mayor said STP plants have been established on the drains flowing into the Narmada River. It will prevent the flow of polluted water into the river.
 
He mentioned that the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation is working towards setting a world record by planting 12 lakh saplings by October. Due to improved water distribution management, citizens have experienced significant relief from water scarcity. Similarly, a project worth Rs 312 crore to supply Narmada water to every household has been rapidly progressing over the past year and a half. In his budget speech, the mayor emphasized his focus on water conservation. He said during his tenure of two years, he carried out infrastructure and development works worth crores of rupees in the city. These works include construction of roads, drains, pathways, parks and more. While presenting the budget, the mayor informed the House that Jabalpur has achieved a three-star rating in cleanliness for the first time and its national ranking has improved. He announced that the JMC will strive for a five-star rating this year and further improve the city's ranking with a detailed action plan already in place. Similarly, the city's air quality ranking has seen substantial improvement. Next year, Jabalpur is expected to be listed among the top 10 major cities in the country. This improvement is likely to attract metro city residents and businesses to Jabalpur.
 
The Mayor also revealed plans to install solar power plants to save on the municipal corporation's electricity expenses. Moreover, 100 electric AC buses will be introduced to reduce pollution in the city. He said the tallest national flag in the state, standing at 75 meters has already been installed in Tilwara. Now, a grand Bharat Mata temple will be established soon. To attract national and international athletes to Jabalpur, an international-standard cricket stadium will be constructed. Under the City-2 plan, a solid waste management system will be strengthened along with the establishment of a biogas plant. The mayor mentioned that the long-awaited construction of a beautiful and well-organised road from Adi Shankaracharya Chowk to Gaurighat on railway land will begin soon. He also revealed plans to establish “56 Bhog Market" in Jabalpur, similar to Indore, where citizens can enjoy a variety of dishes in one place.
