The heavy to very heavy rainfall in last 48 hours has helped overcome rainfall deficit in Vidarbha. East Vidarbha region, which was facing the rainfall deficit since the beginning of monsoon, has finally come out of deficit. East Vidarbha witnessed the delayed onset of monsoon this year whereas all other parts of Vidarbha had early onset as compared to normal date. In June, the districts of Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia were in deficit which continued till July 15. Due to lack of presence of cyclonic circulations in Bay of Bengal in June and first half of July, East Vidarbha received less monsoon rains initially. However, in last 48 hours, widespread rains all over Vidarbha reduced the rainfall backlog.
