The recent incident of Rewa send shock waves to many. ‘The Hitavada’ had deliberations over the traggic incident with women to know what are the causes that are adding fuel to crimes against women. Aarchna Sahay, President of Aarambh and a social activist,talking to ‘The Hitavada’ over the horrific incident in Rewa said that, the incident is unfortunate and saddening. “There are various factors which are adding fuel to such crimes against women. Owing to no fear of punishment and law, the crimes against women are skyrocketing in the state. Another factor that raises alarm is that women are not strong enough to raise their voice.
 
The patriarchal system that is prevailing in the society always makes women to ram the mediation down their throat”. Furthermore, she added that the authorities should keep their ears to the ground that such abhorrent crimes against women that are striking the headlines can make people lose faith in justice deliverance system. The red tape labyrinth will have to be by passed in order to ensure timely deliverance of justice. Highlighting the crucial role of family, Aarchna Sahay stated that “when a woman sense trouble, she demystifies what is coming on the way. When she informs the family, it has to be heard. Taking such cases shall not be taken lightly. The woman has to be strong enough to raise the voice loudly. Believing that educating a female makes her strong is a myth”. She adds that, “it is becoming incumbent upon us to understand that upbringing of the child is crucial. Parents should pay heed towards teaching their daughters what are Dos and Don’ts of life”.
 
Dr Meenu Pandey, Professor of Satya Sai Girls College, stated that the incident of Rewa is disquieting and society cannot live in oblivion. She believes that lacks of opposition from the society are the rationales behind such heinous crimes against women. She opined that in a country where female is considered devi (goddess) are subjected to crimes is a matter of irony. Talking to ‘The Hitavada’ on the laws enforced to deal with felons, she stated that “such crimes make us reflect on the laws that are enforced. It seems that people have no fear of punishment”. She stressed that these incidents are a slap on the moral values which are receding in the modern era. “Charity begins from home. Parents should inculcate moral values in their children and should make them appreciate them that a female should be respected. The government should take expeditious actions against felons” Additionally she adds that self-defence techniques should be taught to girls in the informal educational settings.
