Fencing athlete Rupali Sahu paid a courtesy visit to Sports Minister Tank Ram Verma. Rupali Sahu, along with Reeba Benni, secured a silver medal for India in the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Competition held in Christchurch, New Zealand, from July 12 to 19. The Sports Minister commended their outstanding performance, emphasising that the daughters of Chhattisgarh have not only brought pride to the state but also to the nation. He highlighted the state’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment across all sports disciplines, including the upgrade of sports facilities. Rupali Sahu and Reeba Benni had previously sought financial assistance from the Sports and Youth Welfare Department for their trip to New Zealand.
 
Upon the recommendation of Sports Director Tanuja Salam, the state government approved financial support of Rs 4 lakh for Reeba Benni and Rs 3.5 lakh for Rupali Sahu. The proposal was endorsed by Sports Secretary Himshikhar Gupta and Sports Minister Tankaram Verma. Recognized for their dedication and technical skill in fencing, the athletes’ hard work contributed to their success in securing a silver medal at the international level. Expressing optimism for their future, Sports Director Tanuja Salam conveyed her commitment to promoting athletes from the state, ensuring comprehensive support for their development.
