THE 165th Income Tax
Foundation Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and great
zeal onWednesday in the premises of Aayakar Bhawan, Civil
Lines, Nagpur. Ravi Agrawal,
Chairman Central Board of
Direct Taxes (CBDT ), New
Delhi addressed the departmental officers and officials
through video message.
Parminder, Principal Chief
Commissioner of Income Tax,
Nagpur presided over the function. Renowned Neuro
Physician Dr Chandrashekar
Meshram and Padmashree
awardee was the chief guest of
the function.
In 1860, Income Tax was first
introduced by Britishers by Sir
JamesWilson. In that year total
collection was Rs 10 lakh.
Thereafter, in 1922 the Income
Tax Act was passed which was
replaced by the present Income
Tax Act, 1961.
Top 5 taxpayers
of Vidarbha region, as selected by the Central Board of
Direct Taxes, New Delhi under
various categories were honoured with Aayakar Praman
Patra and momento.
The chief guest in his address
enhanced the importance of
direct taxes collection in day
to day functioning of the
Government.The revenue thus
collected is used for infrastructure growth, health sectors, education, transport network and overall nation building process. He further stressed
that it’s the duty of every citizen of the country to come forward and pay their respective
tax dues, if any, on time. The
direct tax collection today
stands at Rs 20 lakh crore.
A cultural programme was
also part of the function. The
function was attended by all
senior officers and staff of the
Income Tax department.
