Kargil War, a tale of valour of Indian Armed Forces: Major Gen Chowgule

“Victory in Kargil war is one of the golden chapters of the Indian Armed Forces as it showcased that when it comes to defending the motherland, bravery and valour would never be in shortage. Over 500 men who made supreme sacrifice in the war did not flinch for even a second while embracing death, as for them hoisting the tri-colour was all that mattered,” said Major General Vijay Chowgule, PVSM, VSM (Retd), on Friday. The Major General was the chief guest at Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha’s 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas held at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines. At the outset, Flt Lt Shiwalee Deshpande (Retd), Secretary, Sanstha, honoured Maj Gen Chowgule. Prahari Avidas Hejib delivered a moving tribute to the Kargil War heroes, recounting their acts of bravery and supreme sacrifice. Maj Gen Chowgule then delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and sharing his experiences including his time with the 6th Parachute Regiment.
 
He elaborated on the Regime’s contributions to various military operations such as counter-terrorism and special reconnaissance during the Kargil conflict. His address resonated with the audience, emphasising the importance of remembering the sacrifices of soldiers and encouraging the youth to consider career in the Armed Forces. The event was hosted by Prahari’s Priyanka Yadav and Carol Mukoill. Trustees of the organisation, staff and students from Prahar Wasudeoleela Vidyakunj, Prahar Wasudeoleela Military School and Prahar Defence Academy and others also were present. The event concluded with a pledge by Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha to continue nurturing generation of responsible and patriotic citizens. Flt Lt Shiwalee Deshpande (Retd) conducted the proceedings and also proposed a vote of thanks.
