Are the authorities waiting for a mishap to happen and then act?
Staff Reporter :
As the Upper Lake is filled to its brim, people thronged the spot to get a closer look. Amidst heavy footfall, broken railings, uneven, slippery surface and damaged tiles are posing a major risk.
As Upper Lake was filled to the brim, residents on Sunday thronged the lake view point to get a glimpse of the full tank and enjoy the weather. Lack of security at the area is now raising concern at the location. As one moves around to experience the nature’s beauty he/she cannot help but notice the broken boundaries near the lake which has failed to grab the attention of authorities and is now posing a threat to the denizens of the city. Aggravating the hazards are slippery surface all over the bank of the lake.
The issue also finds prominence when Upper Lake nears the full tank capacity level and is experiencing huge rush these days.
At the location, it was observed that the railings are broken at several parts. The broken parts provide enough space for a human to pass through the area and thus stand dilapidated waiting for any official to look over the issue. Some people said who were clicking photographs near the spot, “The broken boundaries are out of order to such an extent that it can lead to any mishap or unfortunate accident as ahead of the broken structure lies the lake.” They unanimously mentioned that the poor condition can lead to drowning incidents too. As one moves further, there lies a muddy field created due to downpour in the city.
The muddy surface has made pavements slippery to walk and adding to the woes of citizens is negligible stance of officials of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) as no such cleanliness drive has been undertaken on the spot.
Water-logging there seems like a perennial problem. The menace at the location is not only limited to that.
As one moves towards the boundaries, another fear is unleashed. This is of the pothole tiles which may give a tough time to residents. Broken within, thus sank in the ground, such broken tiles can be seen all over the place. The most scary aspect is that enthusiastic visitors were seen walking on such broken tiles and slippery pavements which could lead to any untoward incident.
Not just limited to the lake view point, similar situations were encountered at Sheetal Das Ki Bagiya where there were no boundaries and children and even toddlers were in the close vicinity of the lake. There is mud all around with slippery surfaces which could lead to any unfortunate incident if not taken proper cognizance by the authorities.
The lake view point also witnessed heavy rush of people on Sunday.
As people told the newspaper, some came for sightseeing while some just to get a glimpse of the lake and some to enjoy the weather. A market like situation has also emerged at the spot with vendors and eateries at the spot.
