As a part of political rehabilitation, Shiv Sena (Shinde) has given candidature to Krupal Tumane (denied Lok Sabha ticket from Ramtek) and Bhawna Gawli (from Yavatmal-Washim), for Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC). They both along with Dr Parinay Fuke, former minister have filed nomination papers on Tuesday for Legislative Council polls to be held on July 12. This is second time Fuke is contesting Legislative Council election but this time, it is for a different category. In last polls, Fuke had defeated Raju Jain for Bhandara-Gondia LC constituency and became MLC. He was inducted in the ministry by Devendra Fadanvis Government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the names of five candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial elections on Monday with Dr Parinay Fuke one of those. Since Tumane and Gawali were denied tickets from their respective constituencies, Shinde had promised them of awarding MLC candidature. Accordingly both have been fielded by Shinde (Sena). Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, OBC Minister Atul Sawle accompanied Fuke while filing nomination. Maharashtra Legislative Secretary Jitendra Bhole accepted the papers from Dr Fuke.

There are 11 seats in Legislative Council as 11 MLCs will be retiring on July 27. Since 12 candidates have filed nominations, the polls have become inevitable. Tuesday was the last date for filing nomination while July 5 is the last date of withdrawal. The polls will be conducted on July 12 and results will be declared the next day. There are 14 votes short in the 288-member State Assembly, so 274 will exercise their franchise to elect the candidates. The election will be held on preferential vote system. The candidate completing 23-vote quota will be declared winner. Mahayuti with BJP-103 seats, NCP (SP)-41, Shinde Sena-38 have upper hand over Mahavikas Aghadi (63 votes).
