ST JOHN’S Under-17 footballers will walk out at the Shiv Chhatrapati Balewadi football turf in Pune on Tuesday with an aim to continue their dream run in the Subroto Mukherjee State level competition.
With the morale high after emerging Divisional champions at Wardha, St John’s boys, coached by former footballer Savio Andrew, will be eager to stamp their authority and look to becoming Maharashtra State champion.
In their knock-out match, St John’s, representing Nagpur Division, will lock horns with Amravati Division at 8.30 am on Tuesday.
In the district-level competition, St John’s had defeated arch-rivals Saint Francis de Sales by a solitary goal scored by Shayan Khan.
In the semi-finals, they had defeated Centre Point School Katol Road on penalties.
Atif Ali, Adarsh Jangde, Suhan Bhagal, Moses, Joseph and Beryl Emanuel were the goal getters.
Khan, Moses and Emanuel would be the players for Mohan Nagar-based school to take the school through.
While emerging the division champions, St Johns’ goalkeeper Gaurang Rangari made breathtaking saves as they beat Gadchiroli 3-0 in the shoot-out. Shayan Khan, Mayank Bodele and Ishmeet Bahoriya were the scorers.
Delhi Public School Lava were the lucky one’s as they got a chance to play the State meet after division winner Gadchiroli did not report at Pune. DPS Lava were the runners-up in divisional meet.
