THE VED Councilrecently organised a
comprehensivepaneldiscussionon the
Union Budget 2024. Dr Tejinder Singh
Rawal, Chartered Accountant, moderated the session. The panelists included Dr Meena Rajesh, Vice Chancellor
of Raisoni Agriculture University,
MadhyaPradesh;CAPremlataDaga,CA
Julfesh Shah, CA Naresh Jakhotia.
At the outset, Rina Sinha, President
of VED, introduced the speakers. Dr
Rawal highlighted that setting a fiscal
deficit target of 5.8 per cent of GDP for
2024-25,a slightreduction from theprevious year’s 5.9 per cent, isahigh-wire
act without a safety net. He likened the
marginalimprovement toa trapezeartist
balancing on a thin wire, emphasising
that the increased capital expenditure,
projected to rise by 11.1 per cent to Rs
11.11 lakh crore, must spur economic
growth to offset the fiscal burden. Dr
Meena Rajesh discussed the proposed
reformsin agriculture.
She emphasised
that the agriculture sectorinIndia supports 42.3 per cent of the population
andcontributes 18.2percent to theGDP.
CAPremlataDaga spoke aboutreforms
in education and skill development.
Shehighlighted theEmploymentLinked
Incentive Schemes.
CANareshJakhotiadiscussedamendments in direct taxes, including the
abolition of the angel tax for all classes of investors anda simpler tax regime
for foreign shipping companies operating domestic cruises. CA Varun
Vijayvargiya spoke about GST amendments while CA Julfesh Shah spoke on
MSME reforms.
