Member of Parliament Ashish Dubey and MLA Ashok Rohani on Thursday met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and drew his attention towards the problems, concerned with his Ministry, prevailing in Cantonment Assembly. During the meeting, MLA Rohani said for the past few months, they have been receiving information through social media and newspapers that there is a prevailing process to merge all Cantonment Boards into Municipal Corporations. Therefore, they appealed to the Defence Minister to also include all Bagicha (parks) and bungalows associated with the boards as well.

MLA Rohani informed that the road from Gorabazar to Bhongadwar in Cantt Assembly in Jabalpur is in dilapidated condition. The Madhya Pradesh Government has approved a budget of Rs 6.58 crore for its construction. Therefore, permission should be granted to Cantonment Board administration to undertake construction of aforementioned road in the interest of public. Rohani also mentioned that this road falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Similarly, for proposed overbridge to be constructed from Empire Talkies to Bharat Mata Chowk, the Department of Defence has to provide the necessary no-objection certificate to the state government.

Rohani highlighted that residents of Cantt are not benefiting from schemes of the Union Government and the State Government. Furthermore, residents are unable to avail benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which is one of the vital initiatives of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Likewise, the rent of shops within the sector has been unreasonably increased. However, assurances have been given to rectify this issue by reducing the escalated rent. After lending patient ear to the duo leaders’ requests, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured immediate attention to the issues concerning public welfare and provided reassurance for their resolution.
