TRAVELLERS of Nagpur Metro were in
a fix after their trains stopped midway
to station on Orange Line on Friday.
Due to malfunction in over head
equipment (OHE), the services
were down for an hour. The
OHE carries the current that is
necessary to pull the three-car
metro and as power tripped,
the trains were stranded midsection. The travellers seated
in the train panicked and they
did not know what was going on and
there was lack of information as to tripping of power.
The snag in OHE came at a peak travel time over UP and DN line on KhapriAutomotive Square section hitting the
metro services. With start of academic session, Nagpur Metro runs metro
services every 10 minutes.
This is third
instance of problem with Nagpur Metro
but first involving travellers. About a
month back, OHE failure also occurred
and during that time also services were
partially hit. Around a year back, a technical snag near Chhatrapati Nagar
Square stretch had held up an
empty metro train.
Previously about a year back,
an empty metro car remained
stuck near Chhatrapati Nagar
Square stretch owing to technical snag.
After about an hour, the technicians from metro managed to rectify the fault and services resumed on
UP Line, Khapri to Automotive Square.
The work on repairing the fault on DN
line continued and till that time, only
one route was operational on the section. Though Orange Line is not that
crowded, but atleast till Kasturchand Park travellers prefer the metro services.
Metro spokesman said at present information about affected services is still not available and first priority was to restore normalcy in operations.
