RAIPUR :
DR VISHWESH Thackeray, senior
journalist and writer, will be awarded the prestigious ‘Vasundhara
Samman’ this year. The
award, established in
memory of the late
Devi Prasad Choubey,
recognises significant
contributions to public
awareness.
The jury, chaired by
renowned journalist
Diwakar Muktibodh, and
comprising E V Murli,
Devendra Goswami,
Rajendra Sonboir, Alok
Tiwari, Dr Raksha Singh,
Shweta Upadhyay,
Parvinder Singh, Raghavendra
Pratap Singh, Vasundhara Samman
coordinator Vinod Mishra, organising committee chairman Dr Arun
Kumar Shrivastava, reception committee chairman Narendra Banchhor
and secretary Mumtaz, announced
Dr Thackeray’s selection. This marks
the 24th edition of the Vasundhara
Samman.
The award ceremony will take place
on Wednesday, August 14 at 3:30 PM
at the Mahatma Gandhi Kala Mandir,
Civic Center, Bhilai commemorating the 48th death
anniversary of Devi Prasad
Chaubey.
Dr Vishwesh Thackeray is
a distinguished journalist
from Chhattisgarh, with a
career spanning over three
decades. He completed his
early education in Bilaspur
and holds a Bachelor’s and
Master’s degree from
Makhanlal Chaturvedi
National Journalism and
C o m m u n i c a t i o n
University, as well as a PhD in Mass
Communication. From 1996 to 2008,
Dr. Thackeray served as a reporter and
chief reporter for various reputed
newspapers in Raipur. Between 2008
and 2018, he worked as a special correspondent for multiple TV channels, focusing on
investigative journalism of public interest. From 2018 to
2021, he was the Regional State Editor for a well-known
Hindi daily in Raipur. Currently, Dr. Thackeray is the editor of a daily newspaper in Raipur. He is also an accomplished poet, with his poetry collection ‘Pankhon Par Likhi
Ayatayen’ having been published.
Dr Thackeray has previously received several prestigious awards, including the Chhattisgarhi Rajbhasha
Aayog Alankaran and Media Vimarsh Samman.
He represents the rich tradition of journalism and literature in
Chhattisgarh.
The Vasundhara Samman ceremony is supported by
the Culture Department of the Chhattisgarh Government
and is organised jointly by Lokjagran Ki Sanstha
‘Vasundhara’, Shri Chaturbhuj Memorial Foundation,
and Bhilai Steel Plant Officers Association.
Past recipients of the Vasundhara Samman include Late
Ramesh Nayyar, Late Shyam Lal Chaturvedi, Late Kumar
Sahu, Late Basant Kumar Tiwari, Late Vinod Shankar
Shukla, Late Sharad Kothari, Late Baban Prasad Mishra,
Dr Himanshu Dwivedi, Diwakar Muktibodh, Asha Shukla,
