Sir,
In a heart wrenching landslide at Wayanad (Karela), at
least 123 people lost their lives,
128 were injured and the death
toll is likely to surge with hundreds trapped under the debris.
My thought goes out to the
bereaved family in this
miserable hour. But this natural cataclysm could be dodged
but couldn’t. People must know
that in 2011 Gadgil committee
had recommended that this
venerable areas are prone to
landslide sooner or later.
Unfortunately, it was taken
lightly due to which hundreds
of people who were killed while
sleeping in deep slumber.
Who should be held accountable for this astronomical omissions?
In the meantime, I would
like to salute the NDRF team
and rescue agencies that
rushed to the site in no time in
order to safeguard the beleaguered people likely to survive
under debris.
One can imagine the enormity of the circumstances that
Kerala Chief Minister has said
in a categorical manner that
due to the intense rainfall, landslide occurred and an entire
region has been completely
destroyed. I urge to ruling dispensation at centre that kindly expedite in providing assistance so as to more lives could
be rescued.
