Heavy downpour on upstream of Narmada river since last three days surged the water level of Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Project ‘Bargi Dam’. Water discharging from the reservoir was being carried out from 9 gates till August 3 but following the incessant rains in catchment area, the dam authority was forced to open 8 more gates of the reservoir within 24-hours for maintaining average water level.
Bargi Dam, Executive Engineer, Ajay Sure informed that pointing out the heavy inflow into the reservoir, Dam Administration started water discharging from the reservoir from 17 of the total 21 spillway gates for discharging 1.77 lakh cusec (5,031 cumec) from the opening height of 2.03 metre. Heavy water discharging from the reservoir leads to increase in the water level on downstream of the river from 10 to 12 feet.
