Utilise BSNL’s P&T Factory land forpublic welfare: PWD Minister Singh

STATE Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the vision document for West Assembly constituency. Collector Deepak Saxena, Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav and other officials concerned were present on the occasion. During the meeting, Singh had detailed discussion on the key issues, needs and priorities of the West Assembly area. He issued instructions regarding utilisation of BSNL’s P&T factory land at Ranital for public welfare and directed the Collector to issue a notice to the concerned party. Singh stated that the land was originally allocated to provide communication services to the city and its purpose remains in public interest. If the original purpose has been fulfilled, the land should still be used for the city’s priorities and public needs, in accordance with the law. The PWD Minister also addressed the need to beautify and renovate Gwarighat cremation and asked officials to carry out repair and beautification work. He proposed a budget of Rs 3.15 crore for the works, which would be raised through public contributions.
 
He said in association with the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, the city will plan its sewer and water supply systems. Singh emphasized the importance of expert input for urban planning and infrastructure development. Regarding Sangram Sagar lake, he said the water body has potential for tourism and instructed that cafeteria at the site be outsourced for operation, ensuring adherence to regulations. Under the vision document, Singh stressed the need to identify slum areas and ensure proper relocation plans. He also called for action against illegal encroachments on Madan Mahal hill. Likewise, Singh directed decisive action on various projects, including Phase II of IT Park, initiatives related to health, drinking water, roads and transportation. Other important areas discussed included beautification of banks of river Narmada, preventing drains from flowing into the river, installing historical plaques at temples, integrated traffic planning for city roads, and enhancing the aesthetics of entry points and important squares. He also emphasized rainwater harvesting, developing small ponds at sites where soil is being used for construction along ring road and establishing logistic park.
