On Tuesday, the State Capital witnessed a massive protest by guest teachers, prompting police action at Polytechnic Square. Despite police barricades, the teachers continued their march towards the Chief Minister’s residence, resulting in some teachers falling and sustaining injuries.
Sunil Singh Parihar, the State President of the Guest Teachers Federation, stated that the police used force, leaving several teachers injured. He mentioned that the former Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan had promised a year ago in ‘panchayat’ that guest
teachers would become permanent and receive the same pay scale as ‘Guruji’.
The teachers were demanding a proper examination for recruitment and be paid at par with ‘Guruji.”
Over 8,000 guest teachers from across the State gathered in the State capital on Tuesday, staging protests at Ambedkar Maidan before marching towards the Chief Minister’s residence. The guest teachers announced plans to conduct a Tiranga Yatra and gherao the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav if their demands were not met.The protest was organised under the banner of the Guest Teachers Federation, Madhya Pradesh.
Their five major demands include the regularisation of jobs, the inclusion of 10 marks for experience in the guest teacher scorecard, a second chance for teachers scoring less than 30%, a separate departmental eligibility test for recruitment, and the implementation of annual contracts for the 2024-2025 session.
