IN A major crackdown on illegal gambling, Ajni Police raided a satta den at Shree Krishna Dairy & General Stores, Lane No 5, Parvati Nagar, Rameshwari Ring Road and arrested three individuals, including a police constable, Tuesday evening. The accused have been identified as Mangesh Sambhaji Bawne (40), a resident of Plot No 129, Shankarpur, Beltarodi; Manish Mataprasad Prajapati (26), and Police Constable (PC) Manohar Kashinath Mulmuley (Buckle No 1791). During the raid, police seized 251 chits with satta numbers, a paper sheet mentioning numbers related to the ‘Kalyan’ and ‘Mumbai’ satta, cash, mobile phones, and other materials amounting to over Rs 25,640. PC Mulmuley, who is attached to Ajni Police Station, was found gambling at the spot, with his transactions with Bawne and Prajapati evident on his mobile phone.
 
The operation was led by Senior Inspector Nitinchandra Rajkumar, following a tip-off received by newly appointed DCP (Zone-IV) Rashmitha Rao, an IPS officer of the 2020 batch. Acting on the information, a team from Ajni Police Station led by Senior PI Nitinchandra Rajkumar raided the premises and apprehended the accused red-handed. A case has been registered against the three under Section 12(a) of the Gambling Act. Further investigations are underway.
