Gandhi, Hindi have same underlying quality of simplicity, says Purohit

Accepting Hindi whole-heartedly will allow one to fully immerse in the sentiment that was Gandhi,” said former Governor of Punjab Banwarilal Purohit while addressing the Hindi Diwas programme organised at Ghalib Sabhagruh of the Mahatma Gandhi Antarashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (MGAHV ) on Saturday. Kumar Singh presided over the programme. Giving a special lecture on ‘75 years of Hindi as Rajbhasha’, Purohit, who was the chief guest of the programme, said that Gandhi had done enormous service to the cause of Hindi. He was a great supporter of the language. His assassination on January 30, 1948, was a huge blow to Hindi language, Purohit said. Stating that he was feeling a sense of pride coming to a place that had been Gandhiji’s ‘Karmabhoomi,’ Purohit said that Hindi is a mine of knowledge. He cited poems of Bharatendu Premchand, Tulsidas, Kabir, Maithili Sharan Gupt and Harivansh Rai Bachchan while recalling their contribution to Hindi language. In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Krishna Kumar Singh stated that Hindi had grown in power and reach. Asserting that non-Hindi people have played a key role in promoting Hindi and that is the reason why Hindi is growing along with all other

 

Indian languages.On this occasion, University’s souvenir ‘Media Samay’ was released at the hands of the guests. The art direction of its digital copy was done by Rajesh Agarkar. Earlier, the programme started with lighting of the lamp. Prof Kripa Shankar Choubey, President of the Department of Mass Communication, delivered welcome speech and explained the theme. Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Rajbhasha Officer, introduced former Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Yadav also read out the message of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. On this occasion the ViceChancellor Prof Singh presented shawl, garland and University emblem to former Governor Purohit. Dr Rakesh Kumar Mishra, President of the Gandhi and Peace Studies Department of the University, conducted the programme while Prof Anand Patil, Pro ViceChancellor and Director of Distance Education, proposed a vote of thanks. The programme concluded with national anthem. Deans of various branches, heads of departments, Center Director, faculty members, students, researchers, officers and employees of various universities were present in the programme. Teachers, students and employees of Kolkata and Prayagraj Regional Centres and Sarvajna Shri Chakradhar Swami Marathi Bhasha Va Tatvagynan Centre, Riddhapur, also joined online.
