UNION Minister Nitin Gadkari will virtually inaugurate the world’s tallest bamboo tower in Kathiya village, Bemetara district on September 18. The tower, designed by Ganesh Verma of Bhavya Srishti Udyog (BSU), stands at a remarkable 40.20 metres and offers a sustainable alternative to traditional metal structures.
Named Bahu-Balli, the tower is constructed from vacuum pressure impregnated (VPI) treated bamboo, coated with high-density polyethylene (HDPE). It boasts a lifespan of over 25 years and is remarkably lightweight, making it easily transportable.
As the world’s first bamboo crash barrier, the tower showcases the innovative potential of this renewable material. Beyond its structural significance, the tower’s manufacturing process contributes to a more sustainable future.
BSU utilises unusable bamboo to produce biochar, bio-vinegar, and bio-bitumen, ensuring zero waste and emissions. This eco-friendly approach is in line with the global push for sustainable solutions.
Ganesh Verma has called upon the government and industry to promote bamboo, particularly in Chhattisgarh, where its potential in the construction sector remains untapped. While the initial cost of bamboo products may be comparable to steel, economies of scale and a developing ecosystem promise future cost reductions. As steel prices fluctuate and mining challenges persist, bamboo emerges as a viable and potentially more economical option for large-scale projects.
