■ Staff Reporter :
A MAJOR accident was averted in the city on Tuesday when
a huge lush green tree suddenly
fell onto the road, creating
chaos at the site. The incident
took place near Income Tax
Square, where the tree fell and
severely damaged two cars.
Fortunately, several people narrowly escaped otherwise it
could have been a fatal accident.
After the tree fell, area residents immediately informed
the Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation (JMC) and the
Electricity Department. Later,
teams arrived on the scene and
began the process of clearing
the tree from the road.
Eyewitnesses stated that if
people standing under the tree
had not moved in time, their
lives could have been in danger. It is alleged that the tree
was many years old and the
cementing around its base may
have contributed to its collapse. A large crowd gathered
at the site following the incident.
Area people informed that at
around 1.45 pm on Tuesday,
they heard a loud noise. Many
people thought it was thunder.
But when they looked, people
saw that a massive tree had
fallen on top of an electric pole
and two cars.
There were sparks
and the power in the area went
out.
People said just two minutes
before the tree fell, several people were standing under it to
take shelter from the rain, but had moved away once the
rain stopped. It was fortunate
that people had already left
with their vehicles, preventing a much more tragic accident. Shopkeepers informed
that after the tree fell, there
were continuous electrical
sparks and it seemed as
though a fire could break out
anytime. Panicked people
immediately informed the
Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation and Electricity
Department, who disconnected the power supply of
the area to start the operation.
The fallen tree also
crushed two cars parked on
the road. The JMC team had
to toil hard for hours to
remove the tree from the
road and the route from
Income Tax Square to Russell
Chowk could be cleared late
in the night. Power supply
was also restored in the night.
