RAIPUR,
Despite clear CCTV footage, police have yet to arrest the driver, leading to allegations of shielding influential parties
24 HOURS after a reckless
Mahindra XUV driver ran over
a defenseless calf in Raipur’s
Sales Tax Colony, the accused
remains at large.
The brutal hit-and-run incident, which took place in broad
daylight on Monday afternoon,
was captured by nearby CCTV
cameras. Yet, despite this, the
authorities have only managed
to seize the vehicle—a
Mahindra XUV with
registration number CG 04 NV
5557—but have made no
headway in arresting the
driver responsible for the
calf’s death.
This lack of decisive action
has led to growing unrest
among the colony’s residents, many of whom are now openly accusing the police of
deliberately shielding the culprit due to possible connections with influential local families.
According to eyewitnesses, after the accident, the driver swiftly abandoned
the vehicle near the Singhania residence and disappeared
into the house, avoiding any confrontation. Despite this,
the police have failed to arrest the individual or even
determine if the driver was an adult or a minor. The incident has outraged the residents of Sales Tax Colony, who
took to the streets to express their frustration with the
authorities. A protest was organized late Monday evening,
during which the locals raised serious concerns about
the police’s commitment to justice. “We have provided
them with the CCTV footage. We’ve lodged a formal complaint, but the driver is still free. This is nothing short of
negligence, if not deliberate protection of the accused,”
said one resident, questioning the police’s integrity.
The vehicle involved in the crime, registered under
Pinnacle Hydra, a cold storage firm in Fafadih, is no
stranger to controversy. It has a history of traffic violations, including multiple instances of over speeding, with
fines that remain unpaid. This reckless behavior has long
been a point of contention for colony residents, who claim
that the vehicle is often seen speeding dangerously
through their streets.
What has further enraged the residents is the suspicion that the local police are intentionally stalling the investigation.
“The vehicle was parked right in front of the Singhania
residence, and we believe the driver is being sheltered
there. Yet the police, instead of making arrests, seem to
be covering up,” said a visibly frustrated resident. Local
MLA Purandar Mishra has since been approached by the
residents, and he has intervened by instructing the police
to expedite the investigation. However, the residents
remain skeptical, questioning why, despite such clear evidence, the police have failed to arrest the driver. They
have also been reviewing additional CCTV footage from
nearby homes to provide more evidence, while members
of the Gaushala Committee have warned of larger protests
if the police continue to delay the arrest
