To address issues of disorderly conduct by drunkards during Pola, 23 police pick-up vans will be deployed by the City Police to transport the anti-socials found disturbing the social atmosphere on Tuesday. These drunkards would be detained at the police headquarters, informed senior police officials. The city’s police has planned a comprehensive security plan that includes the deployment of 4,000 policemen and 23 specialised pick-up vans aimed at managing and deterring drunk driving. The police have also started checking illegal gambling dens and the sale of illicit liquor, which often accompany the Pola festival.

The deployment comprises seven Deputy Commissioners of Police, 16 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 55 Police Inspectors, and 350 Assistant Police Inspectors and Police Sub-Inspectors. Additionally, a company of the State Reserve Force and 1,000 Home Guards will also be deployed. A total of 13 ‘Marbat’ and 15 ‘Badga’ processions would be taken out in the city on Tuesday. This year, the police have issued specific directives to prevent confusion about the route of these processions. In a bid to maintain order and reduce noise pollution, the police have also imposed restrictions on the use of DJs and laser lights during the Marbat procession. Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, said that DJs will not be permitted in the procession, and any violation of this ban will result in immediate action by the police. The use of laser lights has also been prohibited at the event.
