Cabinet DECISIONS: Rs 14,000 cr outlay for 7 new schemes to boost farmers’ income

THE Centre on Monday announced seven big programmes for the holistic growth of agriculture and allied sectors with a total outlay of nearly Rs 14,000 crore, as it aims to improve farmers’ income. The Union Cabinet approved seven big-ticket programmes related to the farm sector, including a Rs 2,817 crore digital agriculture mission and a electronics, telecom and mobile phones, etc. According to PM Modi, the country has the potential to fulfil the dream of developing a ‘Made in India’ chip for every piece of equipment.
 
The first indigenously-developed chip is set to arrive in the country by the end of this year. Nod to Mumbai-Indore rail line: THE CCEA approved a 309 km new line project providing the shortest rail connectivity between the two major commercial hubs of Mumbai and Indore, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The total cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 18,036 crore and it will be completed by 2028-29, the Minister said. The project will generate direct employment for about 102 lakh man-days, or what Vaishnaw described as “human days”, during the construction. Nod to procurement of 240 aero-engines from HAL for IAF’s Su-30MKI: THE CCEA approved a proposal for procurement of 240 aero-engines for Su-30MKI aircraft of the Indian Air Force from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at a cost of over Rs 26,000 crore, the Defence Ministry said. The delivery of these aero-engines would start after one year and be completed over a period of eight years, it said in a statement. Su-30MKI is one of the most powerful and strategically significant fighter jet fleet of the IAF.
