The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to film actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, Manikarnika Productions, Central and State Government, Censor Board and parties associated with the film ‘Emergency’ and sought their response. The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Saxena and Justice Vinay Saraf issued the above instructions after the initial hearing of the case on Monday.
Commenting on the case, the division bench said that the Sikh community has come forward to serve during the Corona period, providing food to people from oxygen in Gurudwaras, the social service of the Sikh community cannot be questioned.
The division bench has scheduled the hearing of the case on September 3. Jabalpur Sikh Sangat and Shri Guru Singh Sabha Indore have sought relief to stop the broadcast of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’.
It has been said in the petition that the Sikh community has been portrayed in an extremely negative manner in the trailer of the film. The trailer of the film shows the demand for Khalistan in exchange for votes and shooting people of the Sikh community after taking them off the bus. It has been said in the petition that the screening of the film will generate communal hatred in the country. Apart from this, the image of the Sikh community will be tarnished.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s Advocate N S Rooprah told the division bench that the Sikh community has made sacrifices for the country. The Sikh community has always been at the forefront to serve the country. The Sikh community has been presented in a negative light in the film. Due to which there is anger in the Sikh community.
During the hearing, the division bench said that during the Covid period, oxygen cylinders and food were distributed from the Gurudwara in Delhi. While hearing the petition, the division bench has issued notices to the Central Government’s Information and Broadcasting and Home Department, Manikarnika Film Private Limited, actress Kangana Ranaut, Umesh Bansal, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook and other non-applicants. The division bench has said in its order that notices should be sent to the non-applicants through electronic mode.
