Kolkata Hospital incident that created furore in the country was the dominant theme at the Marbat festival. The traditional festival on second day of Pola festivities sees social organisation taking out Marbat, Pili and Kali. The festival is also commentary on social evils and this year incidents of rape, one that in Kolkata, and other one in Badlapur in Thane district, were highlighted. The Marbats are taken out in procession from Central Nagpur and it passes through various thoroughfares of old parts of city. The festival is keenly awaited as Badgya, a symbol of evil attracts maximum attention as organisers highlight that year's current issues. The Pili and Kali Marbats procession starts from separate places and later the two merge to form a single unit. During the procession, the participants raise slogans denouncing the social evils and urge Marbats to take them along and provide respite to populace. The Marbats post completion of procession are burnt to complete the festivities.

 

The entire festival sees conversion of thousands of citizens from all corners of city who throng to witness the procession. The annual event is keenly awaited and people from nearby towns also visit city to witness the grandeur of the Marbat festival. While most of the Badgyas raised the pertinent issue of safety of women and girls and called upon humans to respect their dignity. They also urged Government to ensure speedy justice against the accused in such heinous crimes. One of the Badgya also highlighted the growing drug culture as it was titled 'MD King'. Another Badgya took dig at the politicians who are ready to switch sides for power.
