Chairman of NCSK Venkatesan listens to sanitation workers’ issues

Chairman of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) M Venkatesan held a meeting at the Mini Hall of Manas Bhavan with the Health Department officials, employees of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) and sanitation workers. During the meeting, Venkatesan took introduction of officials, employees and held direct discussion with the sanitation workers. He also listened to their issues. Venkatesan apprised sanitation workers, who also called safai mitras of detailed information about the rights and benefits available to them and assured that positive efforts would be made at every level to protect their interests. Deputy Commissioner Sambhav Ayachi and Health Officer Sandeep Jaiswal informed that M Venkatesan also held a meeting with the sanitation workers and heads of the cleaning contract committees, including Barfani Securities, Ultra Clean and Service, R Priyanshi and Maa Narmada Safai Sangh. Earlier, the programme commenced with Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav, Additional Commissioner V N Bajpai and President of Scheduled Castes and others welcoming Venkatesan with a bouquet of flowers. Deputy Commissioner Ayachi briefed everyone about the efforts being made by Jabalpur Municipal Corporation for cleanliness and welfare of sanitation workers.
 
He highlighted that Jabalpur secured 13th position in Swachh Survekshan 2024, received a 3-star rating in GFC and recently achieved second place in Swachh Vayu Survekshan. During the event, both regular and contract sanitation workers, along with employees of safai samitis, presented their challenges to Chairman Venkatesan. Major issues raised included delay in payments by safai samitis and not receiving timely benefits of ESIC and PF. Following the same, M Venkatesan instructed heads of samities to ensure timely payments to all sanitation workers according to the Collector’s guidelines, provide ESIC and PF benefits, supply necessary safety equipment for work and organise health check-up camps for workers periodically.
 
He also directed JMC officials to inform sanitation workers about various schemes related to them and committees responsible for their safety. Likewise, officials from Jabalpur Labour Office and Jabalpur PF Office were given relevant instructions. At the end, M Venkatesan addressed the sanitation workers and informed them about their rights and schemes available to them.
