Swami Vivekananda Airport (SVA) in Raipur is all geared up for the official launch of the Digi Yatra initiative, a project spearheaded by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, aimed at providing passengers with a seamless, hassle-free, and health-risk-free travel experience. Raipur Airport Director Dr S D Sharma, while explaining the importance of the initiative, noted that the trial of Digi Yatra began on June 25. “Currently, approximately 10-13 percent of passengers at Raipur Airport are actively using this facility,” Dr Sharma remarked. Notably, Digi Yatra, designed to verify a passenger’s identity and travel details using biometric facial recognition technology, allows for smoother travel by eliminating the need for physical checks.

Dr Sharma further explained that the initiative requires two simple steps: enrolling once via the app and sharing travel credentials before each journey. “The national launch of Digi Yatra is scheduled for September 6, across nine Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports, including Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Bagdogra, Ranchi, Patna, and Visakhapatnam,” he added. According to Dr Sharma, Civil Aviation Minister Kinzarapu Ram Mohan Naidu will inaugurate the service at Visakhapatnam Airport, with a simultaneous launch via video conference at the other eight airports. To simplify the registration process, passengers can scan a QR code provided by the airport.
