WITH the start of GaneshUtsav
the Netaji flower market witnessed hectic business activity and excitement among the
consumers on Saturday. The
demand fornatural flowersand
specially pooja flowers has
grown tremendously due to
GaneshChaturthi festivalhere.
Still prices in the market have
remained stable from the past
month. Wholesalers attribute
this to supplies matching the
daily averagedemand for flowers. “The supplies have been
favourable thathas keptprices
under control,” said Jaywant

Utpadak Sangh, Netaji Market
and Director of Utpadak Thok

speaking to The Hitavada.
Hefurthersaid that theprices
of flowers has increased by 10
per cent, as compared to the
previous year.
Suppliers from neighboring
areas within a radius of 200
kilometers are flooding the
market with a diverse range of
flowers.
The arrival of flowers
hasdoubledin thelast fewdays,
withapproximately25-26pickup trucks filled with flowers
entering the city’s wholesale
market ona daily basis. If there
aremore than 50pickup trucks
coming to the market then the
pricesarelikely tocrashas there
wouldbe excesssuppliesin the
market in a single day.
Currently, the supplies are
adequate to meet the growth
in demand which is beneficial
for the farmersandconsumers,
as farmers get adequate remuneration and prices don’t go
beyound thereachofcommon
man, he pointed out.
The flower prices in the
wholesale market: Marigold
(Zendu) is being quoted in a
range of Rs 80 per kg to Rs 150
per kg. Similarly, Shevanti is
being quoted at Rs 200 kg to Rs
300 per kg. The Tuberose
(Nishigandha)is being quoted
at Rs 100 kg to Rs 300 kg.
Also, Desi Rose, Divine
(Shirdi) Rose and are being
quoted at Rs 100 to Rs 200 per
kg and Dutch Rose at Rs 100 to
Rs 300 per bundle (20 pieces).
In the cut flower category,
Gerbera is being quoted at Rs
50 to Rs 80 per bundle (10
pieces), Carnation at Rs 250 to
Rs 300 per bundle (20 pieces),
Orchid at Rs 300 per bundle to
Rs 450 bundle (20 pieces),
Chrysanthemums at Rs 200 to
Rs 250 per bundle (10 pieces)
and Lillium at Rs 1,000 to Rs
1,200 per bundle (10 pieces) at
the wholesale market.
