Infrastructure upgradation was the focal point during the year 2024 as funds flow due to double booster engine of Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis saw development of various new initiatives to ease the life of common man. The important development was opening of 5.6 km double decker fly-over of city on Kamptee Road that provided relief for people moving towards Kamptee. Authorities claim the double decker bridge is longest in Asia and it has contributed to easing movement on the Kamptee Road, but questions on streamlining movement on other side, from LIC Square to RBI Square and ahead till Morris College Square, remains unresolved till date.
Fly-overs bonanza: Now to ease the traffic congestion, a slew of fly-overs are being developed in the second capital of the State. They are Telephone Exchange Square-Wardhaman Nagar to Nirmal Nagari (Umred Road), Reshimbagh to KDK College (Great Nag Road), Rajendra Nagar-Nandanvan to Hasanbagh Square (Sheetla Mata Mandir); Chandrashekhar Azad Square to Marwadi Square (Ganga Jamuna area), Kamal Chowk to Dighori Square (one of the biggest fly-overs of the city). Post opening of these fly-overs, the zig-zag movement at various thoroughfares would come to an end, ensuring streamlining of traffic movement on major thoroughfares.
Still, there are some doubts whether the two projects in these five fly-overs were needed at all, one on Ganga Jamuna Road and other one on Nandanvan Road, as citizens feels same would only add to prevailing problem, that of space constraints.
In addition, the city also saw commissioning of fly-over at Wadi junction which two other components on Amravati Road, one from near RTO to University Campus and other one at Khadgaon Road junction are under construction. Further, the mega ongoing project at Pardi is getting completed one after another as two more arms were opened for traffic, one towards Kalamna fly-over and other one on to Old Bhandara Road.
Further, the traffic jams on Inner Ring Road on Manewada to Mhalgi Nagar may get eased as Public Works Department (PWD) is taking up construction of fly-over. In addition, Phase-II of Nagpur Metro got the financial boost with signing of agreement with Asian Development Bank for release of loan component of $200 million.
The Phase-II would cover periphery of Nagpur city and the expanded reach promises to provide hassle-free rapid transport system for commuters. It will also boost connectivity with city markets.
