Security forces successfully eliminated three Maoists during a joint anti-Naxal operation in the dense forests of Paliguda-Gundrajgudem, located in the Sukma-Bijapur border region. Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres, the operation involved personnel from the Sukma District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and CoBRA battalion. “The operation was based on credible intelligence suggesting the movement of senior Maoist operatives in the area. Our teams acted promptly to neutralise the threat,” said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj Pattilingam.

The deceased Maoists are suspected to be members of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) and the South Bastar Divisional Committee. “We are currently working to identify the individuals and verify their roles within the Maoist organisation,” said the IGP. The encounter began around 10 am on January 9 in the forested hills between Paliguda and Gundrajgudem villages and continued intermittently for several hours.

Following the exchange of fire, security forces recovered the bodies of three male Maoists, along with a BG launcher, multiple firearms, explosives, and Maoist-related materials. “The arms and ammunition recovered indicate that these cadres were part of a significant Maoist unit. The explosive materials seized could have been used in large-scale attacks,” IGP Pattilingam added. This operation is part of an intensified campaign to combat Maoist insurgency in the Bastar region. “Our forces are focused on ensuring the safety of civilians and dismantling Maoist networks in South Bastar,” IGP Pattilingam stated. Further updates, including the identities of the deceased Maoists, will be provided following the team’s return to headquarters.
