As winter intensifies in Steel City, the Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken steps to provide relief to residents by arranging bonfires at major intersections and marketplaces during the morning and evening hours. This initiative is particularly beneficial for rickshaw pullers, auto drivers, vegetable vendors, and pedestrians who are exposed to the cold for long periods. These bonfires allow them to warm their hands and find some comfort in the freezing temperatures. The bonfires have been set up at prominent locations, including Gadha Chowk, Supela Chowk, Power House Vegetable Market, Supela Vegetable Market, Laxmi Market, Anda Chowk, Avanti Bai Chowk, Vijay Talkies Fruit Market, and Jalebi Chowk.

This arrangement spans all zones of the BMC, ensuring that relief reaches as many people as possible. BMC Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Pandey, following government directives, has ensured that these measures are implemented effectively. Residents have expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Phagni Bai, a local scrap collector, shared her gratitude, saying, “Warming my hands at the bonfire in the early morning feels so comforting. Without it, the cold would make my hands numb. The corporation has done a great job by thinking about people like us.”
