Highlighting the need to change perception about architecture in designing homes, Vijay Phanshikar, Editor - The Hitavada said, “People of Nagpur will have to think deeply about the progress of architecture and the way our city is growing in an unplanned and haphazard manner with all its high-rise buildings, homes, roads, pavements and infrastructure. All this modernity and urban development is the opposite of what our culture and traditional values tell us. This is why people are living a life full of diseases and unhappiness.”
At the outset, the chief guest Vijay Phanshikar inaugurated the Silver Jubilee Edition of Rachana Exposition organised by The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Nagpur Centre,
Maharashtra Chapter at Ladies Club Lawns, Civil Lines, Nagpur on Friday.
On the occasion, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways visited the event.
Phanshikar emphasised that people have adopted the modern culture of living due to which they are suffering from diseases and unhappiness.
Phanshikar strongly opposed the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) rules introduced by the State Government, stating that they are unconstitutional. The TDR rules will turn Nagpur into a concrete jungle with indiscipline design, and disorder of arrangement regarding infrastructure. He questioned how land situated somewhere else serves the purpose of providing extra built-up area for another geographic location.
Architect Atulchandra Mendhekar was felicitated and given a certificate for his immense contribution in organising 17 Rachana expositions and was founder member of Rachana by Gadkari. He has served in various capacities with IIA, Nagpur Centre. Convenor Raviraj Sarwate, Co-convenor Rahul Lokhande, Parag Yelne, Chairman IIANC, Aniket Khodwe, Rajesh Kakde, Parikshit Choudhari, Sunil Degwekar, Jiten Srivastava, Subodh Chinchmalatpure, Ziyaullahkhan Pathan, Veepa Jariwala, Sampada Peshwe, Anuradha Tikkas, Husain Karori, Sunny Gupta, Kapil Kawle, Rahul Dandekar and Vishal Khedikar were present.
