THE 4th Chhattisgarh Chess Master Trophy, an esteemed open chess competition recognised by the Raipur District Chess and State Chess Association is set to take place at Agrasen Bhawan, Tatibandh, Raipur on January 12 and 13. Organised under the joint aegis of Chess Shala and the Agrawal Sabha Tatiband Mohalla Committee, the event will feature prizes worth Rs 1.20 lakh including cash awards, trophies, special gifts, mementos, and medals. This competition held in memory of the late chess coach Nandlal Yadav, offers a platform for players across three categories.
 
The open category will see a daylong rapid chess tournament on January 12, with a time format of 10 minutes for each player and a 10-second increment per move. Matches will follow the Swiss league system with seven to eight rounds, depending on the number of participants. For younger players, separate competitions have been organized for the under-10 and under-13 age groups. These matches will adhere to a classical format with 30 minutes for each player and a 30-second increment per move, conducted over five to six rounds based on participant count. Director of the competition and Chess Shala, Rohit Yadav, emphasized that the event honors Nandlal Yadav’s legacy, celebrating his contributions to the chess community.
 
The main attraction of the tournament is the array of prizes, including cash awards, trophies, and mementos. The first prize in the open category includes Rs 11,111 and a grand trophy, while the second and third places will receive Rs 7,777 and Rs 5,555, respectively, along with trophies. Players in other positions will also be recognized with cash prizes and awards. The 4th Chhattisgarh Chess Master Trophy stands as a significant opportunity for chess enthusiasts to showcase their skills while paying tribute to a mentor who dedicated his life to nurturing talent in the game.
