Change is inevitable. If we do not change on our own free will, nature will force it upon us. And for us, time is of utmost importance as it is running out for us. The warming-up of planet threatens to undo the advantages of innovations, claimed Sonam Wangchuk, climate activist and innovator, during interaction on sidelines of Rotary International District 3030 conference ‘REJOiCE’. Not that society is indifferent to the happenings on the climate change, what is required is little bit push to make them aware of the dangers lingering around them. So there is need for continuous programme to awaken the people and make them understand that it’s for their own benefit that lifestyle changes are required, he stated while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.

Dressed simply but putting across a powerful message, Wangchuk dismissed any perception that people are aloof as to need for conservation and pointed out the massive response to his walk to New Delhi. Nearly three-fourth of people from Ladakh supported the cause. Society’s point of view is changing for sure, but it would take time to get them to support the issue of undoing the damage that is causing climate change, he stated further. Amidst stream of fans wanting to click snaps, Wangchuk happily posed with each of them, and when pointed out about people’s perception, he said, they need stimulus to put their acts together.

The Government, the NGOs, each of them are working in their own spheres to address the challenges. He admitted the results would not be seen immediately as same would take time to work out the desired solution. He said, it does not work to just shout about the problems. Each one of us needs to think about the ways and means through which the situation that is deteriorating can be controlled.
