In a major breakthrough, the Ayodhya Nagar Police in Zone-2, Bhopal, have successfully apprehended five members of a burglary gang responsible for several thefts in the city. The police managed to recover stolen gold and silver jewellery, along with other items, valued at approximately Rs 16 lakh. Among the seized items were gold bangles, necklaces, rings, silver anklets, and more, along with weapons such as pistols, knives, rods, and a scooter used in the crimes.
The arrested individuals, hailing from Bhopal, Vidisha, Sagar, and Raisen districts, had varied motivations for their crimes, some sought quick wealth, others to satisfy expensive desires, and a few were struggling with financial debts. The gang operated in two teams: one conducted reconnaissance of potential targets, while the other carried out the burglaries.
They primarily targeted residential homes during the late hours of the night, taking advantage of the cold winter nights. Acting on intelligence and with guidance from senior officers, the Ayodhyanagar Police managed to apprehend the suspects near Phase-5, Arhedi Road, after a well-planned raid.
The suspects confessed to their involvement in five separate burglary incidents in Ayodhyanagar and led the police to the recovery of the stolen goods. The arrested suspects were identified as Shivanarayan Prajapati alias Chaman (32), a resident of Vidisha currently residing in Piplani, Bhopal; Jitendra Rajput alias Jeetu (33), a resident of Sagar currently living in Katara Hills, Bhopal; Rajat Kunde (29), a resident of Piplani, Bhopal; Jaswant Sen alias Golu (25), a resident of Omkara Sevania, Bhopal; and Neeraj Malviya alias Surya (29), a resident of Kolar Road, Bhopal.
The accused were involved in a series of burglaries across the city, and the police have registered multiple cases against them.
The stolen goods recovered include 4 gold bangles, 1 large gold necklace, 2 gold rings, 1 pair of gold earrings, silver jewellery such as anklets and bangles, as well as three motorcycles used by the gang. Additionally, a pistol, knife, rod, and a Tommy were seized. The total value of the recovered stolen items is estimated at Rs 16 lakh. The suspects were taken into police custody, and further interrogation is underway to gather more details about their criminal activities. The successful operation is credited to the co-ordinated efforts of Ayodhyanagar Police Station, led by Inspector Mahesh Lilhare, along with the support of his team. The police action was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Sanjay Kumar Agrawal and Assistant Commissioner of Police Akshay Choudhary. The police have also acknowledged the valuable contributions of several officers and staff involved in the operation. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are exploring potential links to other criminal activities.
