After searching on internet -- “What happens after death”-- a teenage girl committed suicide in the Chhatrapati Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli Police Station. The girl first cut her wrist with cross marks using a stone-blade knife and later slit her throat in her bedroom. Her parents found her lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom early Monday morning.
According to Dhantoli Police, Prajakta (17), a resident of Chhatrapati Nagar and a student of Standard 12th (Arts), was the only child of her parents.
Her father is a senior officer with Reserve Bank of India, Nagpur, and her mother is a housewife. Prajakta’s family lives on the ground floor, while her uncle’s family and grandmother reside on the first floor of the house.
Investigations revealed that Prajakta was addicted to on-line gaming and frequently searched for information about death and foreign cultures. The incident occurred during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday while Prajakta was in her bedroom. She cut her wrist and later slit her throat and ended her life.
The incident came to light at 5.45 am when Prajakta’s mother entered her room. She found her daughter lying in a pool of blood and raised an alarm. Her father rushed to the scene and was devastated by the horrific sight.
Dhantoli Police, led by Senior WPI Anamika Mirzapure, rushed to the spot and conducted a panchnama. During the inspection of the crime scene, the police noticed that Prajakta had made five cuts on her wrist, including two cross marks, and had also slit her throat.
Investigators suspect that Prajakta may have been playing an online game that involved a final task requiring her to end her life using a specially designed knife. A case of accidental death was registered by Dhantoli Police.
Searching for ‘after death’
Prajakta had been searching for information about what happens after death on Google. She was a talented writer and had written extensively about foreign cultures. The police learned that Prajakta was particularly interested in European cultures and had been researching death for some time. According to police, this suggested that she had been planning her suicide for several weeks.
Knife ordered online
The knife with a stone blade and wooden handle is not available in the local market. Police suspect that Prajakta might have ordered the knife online. Authorities are checking her online activities to confirm this.
