Health Secretary Amit Kataria emphasised the need for improved facilities for patients and their families during an important meeting on development works at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital. The meeting, held with Commissioner of Medical Education Kiran Kaushal and Collector Dr Gaurav Singh, focused on upgrading infrastructure and services at the state’s largest hospital, which caters to patients from across Chhattisgarh.
Kataria highlighted the necessity of creating fully equipped dormitories and rooms for the relatives of patients, ensuring they have comfortable accommodation during their stay. He also proposed an action plan to establish a mess hall for social welfare organisations that distribute food to patients and their families.
In addition, the Health Secretary called for the expansion of facilities
to treat serious diseases such as
sickle cell anemia and emphasised
the importance of addressing these needs urgently.
The hospital superintendent presented a comprehensive four-year action plan during the meeting. Key proposals included the construction of a road adjacent to the cardiology department for better garbage management, fire exits from the SNCU and ICU, and transitioning MRD records to an e-filing system.
Dr Omkar Khandwal, Head of Pediatrics, also informed Kataria about the hospital’s strides toward digitalisation, including the implementation of the Next Gen E-Hospital system and tele-radiology facilities.
Prominent attendees included CGMC Director Padmini Bhoi, Medical College Dean Vivek Chaudhary, and Superintendent Santosh Sonkar. Department heads from radiodiagnosis, orthopedics, cancer, physiology, and pediatrics, along with PWD officials and hospital staff, also participated in the meeting.
The discussions underscored the state’s commitment to elevating healthcare standards and ensuring a patient-centric approach at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital.
