In a tragic turn of events that has sent shockwaves across the journalistic community, the body of Mukesh Chandrakar, a courageous journalist from Bastar and a contributor to NDTV, was discovered in a septic tank in Bijapur on Friday. Chandrakar, who also managed the widely popular YouTube channel ‘Bastar Junction,’ had been reported missing by his family on January 1. Acting on vital leads, Bijapur police unearthed Chandrakar’s remains from the septic tank of contractor Suresh Chandrakar’s premises in Chattanpara locality. Initial investigations suggest that a dispute over alleged corruption in road construction projects may have escalated into this heinous crime. According to Bijapur Superintendent of Police, a special team had been formed immediately after the missing person report was filed. The team’s persistent efforts led to the grim discovery at the contractor’s compound.
 
“Several suspects are currently being interrogated, and forensic investigations are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events,” police sources revealed. Mukesh Chandrakar, known for his fearless reporting and bold exposés, had reportedly been investigating irregularities in road construction projects prior to his disappearance. His murder underscores the perils faced by journalists striving to expose corruption in sensitive regions like Bastar. The police have assured a comprehensive probe to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. Chandrakar’s demise has sparked outrage and grief among fellow journalists, who demand swift and exemplary action to safeguard press freedom in Chhattisgarh.
 
CM Sai expresses grief over journalist’s murder in Bijapur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the tragic murder of young journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Bijapur. In a tweet on his social media platform, X, the Chief Minister stated, “The news of the murder of Bijapur’s young and dedicated journalist Mukesh Chandrakar ji is extremely sad and heartbreaking.” He further emphasized that Mukesh ji’s demise is an irreparable loss for the journalism world and society. “The culprit of this incident will not be spared under any circumstances,” the Chief Minister declared. He instructed the authorities to apprehend the criminals as quickly as possible and ensure they receive the harshest possible punishment. Chief Minister Sai offered his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to find eternal peace.
