Indian Opera Star Shanul Sharma of Jabalpur shined at Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s 5th Test Match between India and Australia, on Friday. The 42-year-old, Shanul Sharma, a renowned opera singer originally from Jabalpur, India, captivated audiences at the 5th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 by reciting the Indian National Anthem at Sydney Cricket Ground. His powerful rendition added a unique cultural dimension to the high-stakes cricket match. Son of late OP Sharma and late Manju Sharma, residents of Adarsh Nagar, Jabalpur, Shanul’s journey from heavy metal band vocalist to opera star has been extraordinary. After completing his schooling in Jabalpur, Shanul relocated to Australia for a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.
 
He transitioned to classical singing in 2013, training privately in Melbourne. Since then, he has performed in prestigious venues across Europe, Australia, Russia and the UK, showcasing his remarkable vocal talent. Adding to his accolades, Shanul has been nominated for the ‘Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role’ at the 2024 Green Room Awards for his portrayal of M.K. Gandhi in Philip Glass’s opera Satyagraha, produced by Opera Australia. This nomination celebrates his profound artistry and versatility as a performer. From opera houses to cricket grounds, Shanul Sharma continues to bridge cultural and artistic boundaries, leaving a lasting impression on global audiences.
